EIA pottery project

Dr Xenia Charalambidou

The first phase of my study of the Early Iron Age pottery from the sanctuary of Plakari at Karystos will comprise a macroscopic typological examination focused on such variables as fabric groups, manufacturing techniques, vessel shapes and types classification, vessel surface decoration and vessel sizes. I shall also carry out a quantitative analysis of these variables in order to reveal degrees of homogeneity or variability in ceramic production and consumption practices. This will be an important step towards understanding the characteristics of the local pottery and the imported categories before proceeding to the archaeometric study of the ceramic material, which will take place in subsequent years.
